This explains the cookies and similar technologies DateSpots uses and how you control them.
What cookies are
Small files a site stores on your device to remember things between visits — like keeping you signed in. Some tools use related browser storage (session storage, local storage) in the same way.
Essential cookies (always on)
These are needed for the site to work and don’t require consent: your sign-in session, your chosen city and language, and the record of your cookie choice itself.
First-party analytics (always on, no cookies)
We run our own first-party usage analytics to understand what’s working and improve the service, under our legitimate interest. It sets no cookies: an anonymous session identifier is kept in your browser’s session storage and cleared when you close the tab. On our server each event (page, city and venue views, searches, saves, check-ins, reviews) is stored with that session id, your device’s IP address, the browser or app your device identifies itself as, an approximate country and city derived from it, and — if you’re signed in and haven’t turned personalisation off — your account id. Raw events are deleted after 18 months. It is never used for advertising, we set no third-party ad trackers, and we never sell your data. You can stop us linking it to your account any time in Settings → Privacy.
PostHog product analytics (only with consent)
If you choose “Accept all”, we also load PostHog — a third-party product-analytics tool hosted in the EU (eu.i.posthog.com) — to see how features are used. It stores identifiers in your browser (cookies and/or local storage) and captures interaction events; once you’re signed in it associates them with your account to de-duplicate usage. It is never used for cross-company advertising or ad targeting, and it stays fully switched off unless and until you consent. Withdraw consent any time via the banner (see below) and PostHog stops capturing.
Managing your choice
Use the consent banner to choose “Necessary only” (essential + our first-party analytics only) or “Accept all” (also enables PostHog). To change your mind or see the banner again, clear the “cookie_consent” cookie in your browser settings; choosing “Necessary only” opts PostHog back out.
