This explains the cookies and similar technologies DateSpots uses and how you control them.
What cookies are
Small files a site stores on your device to remember things between visits — like keeping you signed in. Some tools use related browser storage (session storage, local storage) in the same way.
Essential cookies (always on)
These are needed for the site to work and don’t require consent: your sign-in session, your chosen city and language, and the record of your cookie choice itself.
First-party analytics (always on, no cookies)
We run our own first-party usage analytics to understand what’s working and improve the service, under our legitimate interest. It sets no cookies: an anonymous session identifier is kept in your browser’s session storage and cleared when you close the tab. On our server each event (page, city and venue views, searches, saves, check-ins, reviews) is stored with that session id, your device’s IP address, the browser or app your device identifies itself as, an approximate country and city derived from it, and — if you’re signed in and haven’t turned personalisation off — your account id. Raw events are deleted after 18 months. It is never used for advertising, we set no third-party ad trackers, and we never sell your data. You can stop us linking it to your account any time in Settings → Privacy.
PostHog product analytics (no cookies without your consent)
We use PostHog, a third-party product-analytics tool hosted in the EU (eu.i.posthog.com), to see how the site is used. Until you choose “Accept all”, and after you choose “Necessary only”, PostHog runs without cookies under our legitimate interest: it stores nothing on your device, neither cookies nor local or session storage, and counts visits and interactions anonymously. To tell visits apart within a day, PostHog computes a hash on its servers from your IP address, the browser your device identifies itself as and our site’s address, together with a salt that changes every day and is then deleted. PostHog does not keep your IP address. If you choose “Accept all”, PostHog also stores an identifier in your browser and, once you are signed in, links your activity to your account to de-duplicate usage. It is never used for cross-company advertising or ad targeting. Withdraw consent any time via the banner (see below) and PostHog goes back to counting without cookies.
Managing your choice
Use the consent banner to choose “Necessary only” (essential cookies, our first-party analytics and PostHog’s anonymous counting without cookies) or “Accept all” (also lets PostHog store an identifier and link your activity to your account). To change your mind or see the banner again, clear the “cookie_consent” cookie in your browser settings; choosing “Necessary only” returns PostHog to counting without cookies and removes what it stored in your browser.

We’ll update this page if our use of cookies changes, and name any new provider here.
